Because the arroyo is the location where the feminine powers renew themselves & play, unfettered by the cares & demands of the male dominated workplace & the international corridors of corruption & trade, there are women who come here to drink of these waters. Here there is renewal & refreshment where waters gather & enter the womb of the underworld. When they dance their own wild steps, Nature applauds. After a rain there are endless crisscrossing of trails, of animal tracks, crows feet & the remains of the day become phosphorescent. There is a certain sadness in the wind which blows sand in the face of the plans & constructed narratives of the world. All mothers come together & pray here.

Arroyo Roses would not exist without the help, gifts and/or ideas of John Ressler, Barney McGrath & Chris Ishee, none of whom can be blamed for the style, content or belief systems contained herein but to whom I’m grateful.

The image of the Sacred Heart on the title page of this site is the work of Marion Martinez, an amazing Northern New Mexican artist whose current work is comprised of recycled computer parts. See & purchase her work at marionmartinez.com.
